While this project will have many different phases to it by the end, so far the bulk of my work has been practicing (and this will likely continue to be the bulk of my work for the foreseeable future).
I have crocheted before, but very minimally and not for months. While I remember some of the basic skills, it can be difficult to remember some of the basic crochet patterns after being out of practice for so long.
My first order of business was finding resources to help me recall those basic skills. I began by resorting back to the youtube video that introduced me to crocheting to begin with, called “How to Crochet a Scarf for the Complete Beginner” by B.Hooked Crochet:
While it is not my goal to be able to crochet a scarf, this video contains easy, straightforward instructions to a few of the most basic crochet techniques, and so that is where I’ve decided to start.
I hope that with some more practice I’ll soon be able to feel more confident in my crocheting skills again, but until that day you can find me curled up on my couch with a cup of hot chocolate resting nearby and a questionable looking crochet design in my hand!

Emily – thanks for getting this posts up so I can see. I’d like you to dig a bit deeper on why you make your choices. For example, you mentioned in the previous post that 5 or 5.5mm are fine for crochet hooks. How did you decide those were fine? Was it prior knowledge you had, did you look at a resource. Try to dig and note how you make these decisions. Digging a bit deeper will better help you connect how you learn, with how you need to help your students learn.
Also, I’d like to better understand the resources you’re using to learn what you’re doing. Try to make sure one of these resources is an actual person. Someone who can give you ideas, feedback or motivation on the project.

I love the layout of your blog!! If I knew how to do this I would too haha. You’ve got multiple modalities which are really nice! Your blog just has a really nice aesthetic. I tried to crochet in the summer and didn’t get very far so I am impressed by you taking this on! Hope you’re having fun with it!!

I’d love to see how your crocheting is coming along! I’m also trying to figure it out and I think i’ve gotten a decent handle on the basics but I was too impatient to seek out proper instructions and probably should have been more methodical like you… Once you’ve progressed on to some new techniques/stitches for the animal you’re making I’d love to get together and have you teach me!

Emily!
How awesome that we are both learning to crochet for this project!! Maybe we could collaborate and interview each other on how the process is going (or something)? I relate to the length it took me to feel somewhat confident in my crocheting abilities … and I still think they are lacklustre lol.
I will check out the Youtube resource you provided for developing my learning!!
