An Inquiry Project by Emily Wynans

The Final Product

I am finally done. Somehow!

So, the moment we’ve all been waiting for (okay, mainly me)… my jellyfish!

I’m still not entirely sure how I managed to actually pull this project off, as I fully expected to get stuck somewhere early on in the process and not be able to make it any further. To be honest, I’m very proud of the fact that I was able to dedicate myself enough to actually learn something like this, because holding the little jellyfish in my hand knowing that I made this all on my own is an awesome feeling of accomplishment, even if it may not seem like it to someone else.

While it might be small and relatively unimpressive, I have never completed a project like this before, and just knowing that I can tackle something new and creative like this and actually have success with it is really cool to experience!

Since finishing the head and the tentacles over the past couple weeks, the only thing left to do was attach them. This proved to be really simple, as all it entailed was guiding the extra strand attached to each tentacle through one of the crochet loops that were left exposed at the bottom of the head. From there, I just had to tie a knot to secure each tentacle in place, and then tuck the excess strands of yarn up into the head of the jellyfish to help give it shape. Then I simply tucked in any remaining stray pieces, stretched out the tentacles, and I was done!

The head also looks significantly less lumpy looking now which is a bonus.

While this project took a lot of time and effort, I’m glad it challenged me to try something new. I suck at trying new things during a busy semester, but I think it’s important to save time for hobbies and for exploring new things, because let’s be honest, there never really is a best time for doing it. So why not now?
