Today, I finally finished constructing the head for my jellyfish! It feels so good to be headed in the right direction after making so little progress for so long (excuse the pun).
Now that the head is finished, all that’s left is to create the tentacles, and then put everything together.
While that should be easy in theory, I know how hard completing the first half of this project has been despite my hopefulness, and so I hope that with a little perseverance and a whole lot of coffee I can finally sit down and hammer the rest of this jellyfish out. That’s a sentence I never thought I’d say.
As you can see from the video attached below, the head resembles the crochet balls pictured in my last post, but with an opening at the bottom and a couple excess yarn strands from where my crocheting began and then stopped. This bottom hole is where the tentacles will be attached once they’re complete, and then any excess strands will get stuffed within the head of the jellyfish to help hold its shape.
Once that is done, I hope that I’ll simply be able to sew it closed, and then the moment I’ve been waiting for: being able to hold the finished product in my hand so that I may recognize and appreciate the hard work that I put into making it. I can’t wait.

Yay, that’s awesome! This semester has been a busy and stressful one, so make sure to count your wins. I hope making the tentacles won’t be as stressful for you, you are so close! Im excited to see the final product. Are there any strategies you have to stay focused and motivated? Since this has been a struggle, do you see yourself trying other patterns after the semester is done or taking a break?
Side note: I really enjoyed your looped automatic video (not sure what to call it). How did you make it?

Thanks for your comment Emilie! I think my only strategy for staying motivated and focused is just reminding myself that the hardest part is starting, but I know that once I do it won’t seem nearly as difficult as I’ve been imagining it. I definitely want to try out more patterns so that I can keep up the practice with developing more skills, but also might do it in more of a relaxed way haha. The loop was just a video that once inserted into the blog post you can choose how it presents! So I chose the loop because I figured it would be the least amount of hassle for people 🙂

Haha, cheeky pun. What a cute little head! I totally feel you on itching for the finished product. It really does take going through the process yourself to really feel how challenging it is to learn something new.
Love your formatting too by the way, so beautifully organized. Go Emily!
